Leah on Commitment
Received by Sal Rachele
March 17, 2006

Questioner:  Leah, I’m really discouraged. I’ve been affirming and praying for things to get better in my life and yet when I look around, I’m tempted to ask the government to declare my life a National Disaster Area. At least then I might get funding for my mess. Why is it so hard to get and stay clear? Is it my karma? Or is life really supposed to be this hard? Can you shed some light on this? Thanks.

Leah: Beloved, you are far from being alone in your predicament. Probably every one of you has asked this question, or a related form of it, at some point in your spiritual growth. Those of you who have followed my teachings for some time know that I do not sugar-coat my messages, and I’m not about to do that here. So let’s get right down to the heart of the matter. I know you’ve heard this before, from this and countless other channels, but for most souls, life is inherently difficult on Earth. There are very few souls having what the channel calls a “plateau lifetime”. A plateau lifetime is one in which you cruise through with very little challenge. It is like a life-long vacation in which things just drop in your lap when you need them and everything just flows continuously.

Is anyone reading this message experiencing one of these? I didn’t think so. Not this time around. You are in a more advanced course now and there seems to be daily homework. Yes, beloveds, the vacation is over. It’s time to hit the books, as they say in college. It’s time to cram for finals, to be more accurate. No, God is not testing you or giving you final exams to see if you can make the grade. All of you make the grade in God’s eyes. However, you Earth-bound souls have been longing for the day you can graduate from the world of pain and misery and in order to do so, you must face ALL of your inner demons. You know them well – they go by names like guilt, shame, unworthiness, belief in scarcity and lack, fear, anger, apathy, despair, boredom, lack of direction, etc.

You might be saying, “But Leah, I’ve been working on myself for over 20 years now. Surely I must be making SOME progress.” Of course you’re making progress. How many thousands of years did you spend learning about darkness, misery and death? What makes you think you can undo lifetimes of karma in only a few years? Well, actually, you CAN undo a great deal very quickly, and you HAVE BEEN DOING THIS! What did your life look like 20 years ago, beloved? Be completely honest here. Are you the same person you were 20 years ago? Hardly. You have come a LONG way. You have come much farther than you realize.

Dear one, you live in a world of amnesia. Despite countless workshops, seminars, private readings, classes, healings, books and tapes devoted to personal and spiritual growth, you still find yourself forgetting to meditate, forgetting to put your techniques and exercises into practice, and forgetting to bring forth your radiant golden God Presence. Then you beat yourself up for forgetting and that drives a second nail into your already bleeding hands. Yes – you are crucifying yourself every time you belittle yourself for forgetting.

In order to overcome the amnesia of this world, your commitment to truth and your awakening process must be very firm. You must desire awakening more than anything else in your life. As long as you have conflicting goals, you will not be able to stay clear about your path. Spiritual growth requires commitment. Yes – it’s that ugly “C” word, now isn’t it? Commitment has become a dirty word for many of you – it implies some sort of slavery or drudgery or joyless existence spent holding your nose to a grindstone. (What a funny expression, obviously coming from early manufacturing days in a mill.)

Commitment’s kissing cousin, discipline, also falls into that “ugly” category. Perhaps you were told to have discipline as a young student in school, and you equated it with not being able to go outside and play until your studies were done. We are not going to go into detail about the nature of learning and discipline in this lesson, but we are going to talk about priorities.

This channel teaches workshops on personal and spiritual growth around the world. When he first announces an event, a lot of people get interested and want to sign up. By the time the actual event occurs, usually less than half of those people actually show up. Why is this? Because it’s easy to talk about commitment but a lot harder to follow through with promises you make to yourself. The issue here is priority. If personal and spiritual growth are not the highest priorities in your life, beloved, than you will find excuses to not attend an event or practice a technique, even if you KNOW it is for your highest good.

This channel has often stated that the things that are the most important in your life are the things you make time for. If you say you don’t have time to work on yourself, it means that working on yourself is not a high enough priority to pre-empt the other things you consider to be more important. The two most common excuses we hear are, “I don’t have the time,” and “I don’t have the money.” Yet on your Earth, there are 168 hours in a week and even if you work a full-time job of 40 hours per week, that leaves 128 hours. If you sleep six hours per night, that is 42 hours, which still leaves 86 hours. We know, some of you have children and indeed it is often difficult to meditate and spend time alone when you have a large family. Where did you hear us say it was going to be easy? Yet if you are TRULY committed to something, you DO make time for it. Even if it’s only one hour per week, it’s better than putting it off.

The other excuse, “I don’t have the money,” can be a temporary impediment to taking expense seminars that require extensive travel, but how much does it cost to meditate or breathe or use the golden light technique? Perhaps a workshop costs a couple of hundred dollars. How many of you have spent that much on dinner out three or four times a month? We are not suggesting you give up your Earthly pleasures and save all your pennies to take this channel’s or another’s workshop. But if you think back over your life you will realize that when you wanted something badly enough, you found a way to earn the money. Remember back to childhood and that bike you always wanted? Remember saving money in your piggy bank every week? Many of you manifested that bike quicker than you thought possible.

Today, let’s start by making the COMMITMENT to move beyond limiting thoughts regarding time and money. If you are doing what you TRULY desire to be doing, you will have enough time and money. If you feel you do not have enough time and money, then there is a conflict within you about what you truly want to be doing. Yes, we realize that many of you have bought into the limiting belief that there is not enough time or money, but being committed to healing those beliefs is the first step. Take the time and spend the money necessary to move those beliefs out of your consciousness. Spend time being around people who no longer hold those beliefs. Learn from them. Many of them will give of their time and money to help you. Ask and ye shall receive. That statement really means, “If you ask sincerely and with your whole being, you WILL receive that which you ask for.” No, it might not come instantaneously, but it will come.

What are the most important things in your life? Go ahead – take out a piece of paper and list them. Now ask yourself, what are the three most important things on that list? Now, how can you begin today, right now, to move toward accomplishing those things or realizing those things? Do not worry about being practical at this point. That comes later. First you must realize that you CAN have what you truly desire.

Was Jesus wrong? Have we been wrong? All of the great teachers and masters on your world have said the same thing since time began. Ask and ye shall receive. How much simpler and more direct can it be than that? If you are not getting what you think you want in your life, then obviously there is something blocking you. Being committed to your spiritual growth means going deeply into the nature of those blocks, uncovering them and healing them. Yes, this requires time and energy on your world. Is there really any better way to spend your time than uncovering and removing blocks to your awakening? We don’t think so.

Some of you are doing more for others than you are doing for yourself. Then you wonder why you don’t have time for your spiritual growth. It’s really very simple – if you don’t take care of yourself, how can you give to others? You DO come first – and that’s not being selfish, that’s being realistic. You need to take care of your energy and your priorities and then you have far more to give to others. Happiness is an inside job. If you are not happy, it is time to go within to the Source of happiness. You will never find it without unless you first find it within. Okay, Leah here is going back to basics. But some of you need a refresher course. Repeat – happiness starts within you and spreads outward. You cannot find happiness in the world without first finding it in yourself. Got it? Good.

Okay, let’s summarize. Whatever you spend the most time and money on currently is what you are currently committed to. Whatever is a priority in your life you MAKE time for and you spend money on. So where are your priorities?

I am Leah, coming to you from the heart and love of God, blessing you always.
